Nick Barniville

Nick is an Irishman who has spent more years outside his home country than in it (albeit now happily back at home overlooking the Atlantic in West Cork). He’s a trained development economist whose first career included stints interpreting on building sites, buying and selling travel agents, helping the Vietnamese find finance to build their defence capabilities to combat regional threats, and a few other fairly random adventures. This first career stage developed his passion for travel, and he worked in Ireland, Germany, the UK and Australia.

Nick then settled in to a career in business education and spent 22 years as parent of last resort to thousands of post-graduate students in different universities, back in Germany and Ireland, with a five year stint in France in the middle.

With Covid came an epiphany and the opportunity to live on La Gomera in the Canary Islands. Nick quit the day job and now combines travel guiding in Ireland and the Canaries with consulting top universities on strategy and education technology.

Nick is an avid hiker, cook, brewer, wine drinker and long-distance runner. He has visited around 100 countries, and would never bring you to places he wouldn’t like to go himself (unless, like on the last Ireland trip, you beg to be brought to the Blarney Stone). He speaks French, German, Irish and enough Spanish to navigate this wonderful adventure to Tenerife and La Gomera.
